Pollution Monitoring
Under the NSW Protection of the Environment Operations (POEO) Act 1997, Pure Alumina Limited (PUA) is required to formulate a Pollution Incident Response Management Plan (PIRMP) and to make this plan publicly available on our website. A link to the plan in .pdf format is provided (see right hand column). You will need a .pdf reader to open and read the file, if you do not already have one please download a free copy of Adobe Reader by following this link Free Adobe Reader
The following is a link to PUA's Environment Protection Authority Licence No. 12008
The licence requires PUA to monitor and publish pollution monitoring data.
Maximum concentration limits for three Pollutants for both Monitoring Point 1 and Monitoring Point 2 have been set by the Environment Protection Authority, please see table below:
Maximum Concentration Limits
Pollutant | Unit of Measure | 100 percentile concentration Limit |
Oil and Grease | Milligrams per litre | 10 |
pH | pH | 6.5-8.5 |
Total suspended solids | Milligrams per litre | 50 |
Point 1
Point 1 requires PUA to monitor daily any outflow from the Reward Mine. As the Reward Mine is in Care and Maintenance and not producing any outflow there is consequently no data available.
Point 2
Point 2 requires PUA to monitor quarterly during discharge the groundwater seepage emanating from the Amalgamated Portal to the Reward Mine. Monitoring is in the form of a Grab Sample which is forwarded to a laboratory for analysis. The results of past and recent testing at Point 2 are below:
